Pasta Making Classes in Italy

A pasta making class in Italy is the most booked cooking class in the country: in about three hours you mix egg dough, roll it by hand, cut fettuccine or fill ravioli, make a sauce and eat what you made. Rome, Florence and the Sorrento coast have the most of these short classes; Bologna is where fresh egg pasta is taken most seriously.

Short pasta making classes: 2 to 5 hours

The classes most visitors book in Rome, Florence and on the Amalfi Coast: fresh pasta, a sauce, often tiramisu, then the meal. Prices as each school publishes them.

36 more short classes are not shown here.

What to know

One class teaches one or two shapes. A week-long course teaches the whole family: egg and semolina doughs, rolling with the long pin, filled pasta, gnocchi and the sauces of the region, with time to repeat each step until it works. That is what the week-long section of this page compares: cooking holidays, culinary courses and pasta masters that teach pasta every day.

How to choose

  • One afternoon: compare group size and menu; pasta plus tiramisu is the standard Rome menu.
  • Want to really learn it: pick a course of a week or longer that teaches rolling with the long pin (mattarello), not only a pasta machine.
  • Bologna and Emilia-Romagna for egg pasta and tortellini; Rome for cacio e pepe and carbonara; Puglia for orecchiette.
